Negative Comments on Social Media
They say when people start talking about you that just means you have done something right. But many a times, it is difficult to remember this when you are crowded with negative comments.
Whenever, you open a post on any social media platform or blogs or information sharing of any kind, more often than not, you will stumble over negative comments first. People mocking, abusing, discriminating openly and vocally is not an uncommon sight. There are “trolls”, the definite community of people who only use social media to spread negativity and hate. There have been numerous cases of teens and adults falling prey to “Cyber Bullying” and in worst case scenarios, have ended their lives over it. That is how widespread and disastrous this epidemic is.
As a brand or as a marketer, you are constantly exposed to this menace, while managing your brand identity and building up on social media. It would be unrealistic to say that it would not affect you, but you have to be very objective while dealing with haters on social media.
- It is ok to feel strongly about the content you have created, because we always have public choice in mind while designing the post/content. However, your content may not work as well as you expected and that is completely ok. Do not get disheartened and keep moving forward.
- If someone is genuinely making a relevant complaint about your brand or service, reply to them in the most polite way possible. You need to identify real grievances from the haters. These people are the one you want to respond to and turn them into positive influencers.
- NEVER EVER engage with trolls. They are just there to have fun and you responding to them will only encourage them to troll further.
- People who complain illogically just need to be ignored. Do not have a conversation with them as their sole intent is to hurt your brand identity.
- Block people using abusive language on your page/post. Have a zero tolerance policy for such people.
- Be kind to yourself. As hard as it may be, do not take the negative comments personally, as they are not targeted towards you.
Stay positive.. Stay creative!
